About Parallax Quantitative

Where scientific rigor meets systematic execution.

Founder

Hayden Atkinson, PhD

With a PhD in Musculoskeletal Health Research and a Masters in Physical Therapy from Western University, Hayden has spent 11 years at the intersection of advanced medical imaging, biomechanics, machine learning, and complex systems targeted for improving musculoskeletal health, including a publication record of 25 peer-reviewed journal articles and abstracts.

His research applies advanced techniques in compositional and anatomical MRI, physiological and performance measures, 3D gait analysis, and clinical data. This multimodal approach requires extracting predictive signal from high-dimensional, noisy datasets where traditional methods fall short.

Through advanced understanding of complex disease processes, application of predictive algorithms, applied clinical expertise, his work informs surgical and rehabilitative interventions as well as mechanisms of disease prediction. This combination of computational depth and clinical intuition provides Hayden a fundamentally different perspective than the average scientist or clinician would bring to quantitative trading. This non-traditional background aligns with the quantitative industry gold standard; the world’s most successful quantitative funds intentionally recruit STEM PhDs over traditional finance professionals, leveraging scientific rigor and differentiated perspectives to analyze markets as complex data systems rather than traditional economics.

Financial markets are much like musculoskeletal diseases. Both are driven by complex interactions between multiple variables, making prediction of outcomes inherently complex. Reliable understanding requires systematically extracting signal from every available dimension. As a self-directed investor, Hayden initially developed machine learning algorithms to manage his own capital, targeting repeatable patterns and signals that created a reliable edge at mid-frequency time horizons. As the models consistently outperformed and improved over time, what started as a proprietary system grew to gain outside interest. It was then that Hayden realized a massive gap in the landscape: the sophisticated, automated trading infrastructure required to navigate modern markets is structurally inaccessible to the average Canadian investor.

Hayden founded Parallax Quantitative to address this exact barrier. By building professional-grade infrastructure to provide Canadian capital with direct exposure to systematic trading, Parallax is democratizing access to modern, data-driven strategies capable of generating uncorrelated alpha.

The Science

Four pillars of scientific methodology, applied to financial markets.

01

Machine Learning & Deep Learning

Convolutional architectures and attention mechanisms trained on years of market data to identify predictive patterns invisible to traditional analysis.

Powers the core signal generation in both Vector and Polaris strategies.

02

Causal Inference & Statistical Methods

Moving beyond correlation to identify true causal relationships in financial data, applying the same rigorous methodology used in peer-reviewed academic research.

Ensures our models capture genuine market dynamics rather than spurious patterns.

03

Probabilistic Risk Frameworks

Every decision is framed probabilistically. Position sizing, exit timing, and exposure levels are all calibrated using conditional probability distributions.

Drives our adaptive stop-loss and take-profit systems that evolve in real time.

04

Systems Engineering & Automation

End-to-end automated pipelines from data ingestion through signal generation to order execution, engineered for reliability, speed, and consistency.

Enables daily systematic execution across multiple strategies without human intervention.

Looking Forward

Parallax Quantitative is building toward a future where systematic, research-driven strategies are accessible to every wealth manager, not just the largest institutions. As our strategy library expands and our track records deepen, we remain committed to the same principles that guide our research: rigor, transparency, and measurable results.

Parallax is currently accepting early stage capital commitments to expand operations and support our strategic quantitative infrastructure.
